Ella Ervilla (Eaton) Kellogg, nurse, author and dietitian, received her Bachelors of Arts degree (and Masters) from Alfred University. She met and married Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, and although they had no children of their own, they were foster parents for over forty children. She led training for foster mothers and established a kindergarten and home school, wrote numerous articles on child-rearing and education for "Good Health" magazine from 1877 to 1920. She was a charter member of the American Dietetic Association, member of the National Congress for Mothers, American Home Economics Association member, member of the Women’s League, and member of the Y.W.C.A. She was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in 1999.

The book Alcibiades the Schoolboy was originally written in Italian, in 1630, and then translated into French by, perhaps, Édouard Cléder. I’ve priced the book, as I do everything I write, at the lowest cost allowed by the publisher. Incredibly, Rocco was a priest, as well as a writer and an Aristotelian philosophy teacher. He wrote Alcibiades the School Boy, as said, in 1630. It’s first publication, in 1652, was mostly destroyed due to the filth of its content, and was republished in 1862. It was again found filthy and again largely destroyed. Philotime is modeled after Socrates, and is wonderfully portrayed as being as hypocritical as the great Athenian philosopher himself. The text is considered the world’s first homoerotic novel, and I guarantee that it is highly erotic. Many a novice, many a monk, (many a translator), must have passed disquieting days copying it, restless nights mauling it over. The first half of this book recounts the historically accurate life of Alcibiades that I myself wrote following months of research. The second half is the translation of Rocco’s oeuvre.

Controversial but essential historical homosexual work,

It says much about the censorious times we live in that the former English translation of this work has been allowed to fall out of print and now commands many hundreds of pounds on the second hand book market. No matter what one thinks about Greek love (the love between an adult male and an adolescent boy) this is an important work in the history of sexual literature, one that has even been owned and studied by the renowned biologist and sexologist Alfred Kinsey. This current edition will be a major resource for anyone who has heard about this notorious book but has not had the opportunity to read it. It ranks alongside the Satyricon of Petronius as a landmark of homosexual fiction and therefore I must congratulate Michael Hone on bringing it back into print. Obviously a lot of care and attention has gone into this translation.

Necessary Antidote to a lot of Deleuze scholarship

A much needed commentary on the dominant interpretations of Deleuze/Deleuze related scholarship!

In contrast to the interpretations of Deleuze as providing us with a philosophy of affirmation, or a thought that seeks to expand the vital powers of "life", and especially a Deleuze that is secretly partisan to the liberal-democratic project (e.g., Nicholas Tampio's text Deleuze's Political Vision), Culp draws out the Deleuze that found redemption not in the joyous but negative affects. This thesis, though counter-intuitive, is instructive in combatting the common sensical demand of transparency regarding new media and social movements. In the domain of aesthetics and politics, Deleuze is often read as a proponent of 'believing in the world' and actualizing this belief via cinematic means.

Dark Deleuze, by contrast, develops the idea that what we need at the present is not the reinstantiation of belief but the cultivation of hatred for the world as it currently exists. Thus, instead of the Deleuze as 'world creator' we find a Deleuze who is a 'destroyer of worlds.' Linking the cultivation of hatred for the world with the project of 'world destruction' becomes even more timely against the backdrop of the ongoing protests in France against the 'El Khomri' labor law (the images of the graffiti/slogan 'une autre fin due monde est possible' have been made viral and resonates here with the project of Dark Deleuze). In this way, we are given an image of Deleuze who affirms the well known communist mantra that communism is not a stage or ending point but the real movement that abolishes the presently existing social relations along with itself in the process. Hence Dark Deleuze is classified in the table of categories found in the text under the heading of 'destroy worlds' as opposed to the popular image (mainly sewn together from general readings of Difference and Repetition and What is Philosophy?) 'create concepts.'

In any event, if there is any future in Deleuze scholarship that can reconnect to the tradition of a radical, insurrectionary, communist movement for our present, Culp's Dark Deleuze is a step in the right direction.

Confronted by the regulators and growing loan reserves and operating losses plus a misdirected expansion strategy the bank falls deeper into the hole. The poorly conceived Merchant Bank experience to expand worldwide in the securities industry weakens and itself adds to the growing difficulties. Amid the turmoil the charactes of Bank of America and Security Pacific clash as Smith and his team seek to keep the merger from failing while Rosemberg's troops seek to find ways to derail the merger and disgrace their future partners. Exiting the book will keep the reader on the edge of their chair with never ending thrills and excitement, and a bit of humor, as the deal waivers near its conclusion.

The guide lists commom look alikes with very big detailed pictures. This book makes identifying with more accuracy easier for beginners. This is a book covering more common mushrooms that one would encounter during time in nature.If you are looking for a guide with all types of fungi and lengthy description, this isn't what you want. this is a handy little pocket guide.

Religion’s impact on our society is shocking, almost mind boggling. The wild stories work even today. If you are a clever preacher, you can tell your followers you saw a man walk on water. Many will believe you.

The answers to the so-called mysteries of faith never elude us as they are in any public library. Most are just too lazy, complacent, stupid, or fearful to conduct the required research to explore such topics.

A Must-Read for Christians in America...

This book just about sums it up! It is well-written and succinct with great explanatory power. The author, Joseph Lewis, of Montgomery Alabama founded the "Freethinkers of America" in 1920.

This title was originally published in 1954, Lewis also wrote many more.

Books like this one are important. This point of view that society labels Atheism should be the default position for anyone over about 8 years of age, because the simple incredulity of the Theist worldview is embarrassing at best in the 21st Century, this book makes that clear. I was very glad to find out that Joseph Lewis was an American, because as I read his prose I got the impression that he was British.

I strongly recommend this book be read by those who hold Theistic beliefs of any kind, even if its just belief-in-belief. We humans all over the world need to start to indoctrinate our children with ideas that reinforce Freedom, Equality, Critical Thinking, and Rule-of-Law. Divisive religious nonsense needs to go the way of the Dodo bird...

I told my family I was an atheist when I was about 10. This book gave me a different point of view on atheism. I recommend this to anyone who does or doesn't belive in god.

Everyone ought to read this. He lays it out succinctly and easily digestible, and he died back in the '60s, much more has been discovered further by our powerful scientific method. Look the truth in the face and rejoice in triumph that we all exist together in an indifferent universe according to no purpose or plan, so find your own purpose, be cheerful, and lift your fellow man up with an extended hand!
