About the Author
Heather Sunseri was raised on a tiny farm in one of the smallest towns in thoroughbred horse country near Lexington, Kentucky. After high school, she attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and later graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in accounting. Always torn between a passion for fantasy and a mind for the rational, it only made sense to combine her career in accounting with a novel-writing dream. Heather now lives in a different small town on the other side of Lexington with her two children and her husband, Mike, the biggest Oregon Duck fan in the universe. She is a recovering CPA, and when she’s not writing, she spends her time tormenting her daughter’s cat, Olivia, and loving on her son’s Golden Retriever, Jenny.

A fantastic sequel, as fresh and exciting as the first book!

Uprising is an absolutely fantastic follow-up to Emerge. When I finished Emerge, I was curious about what direction Heather Sunseri would take the sequel, given the book's ending; I could not have been happier with Uprising! The book was fresh and full of twists, and progressed in ways I never could have predicted. Cricket and West continued to grow as characters, individually and as a couple, and I continued to adore both of them. West is the calm to Cricket's storm and together they balance one another perfectly. I loved the new aspects of their lives were introduced, including glimpses into Cricket's former family home and insight into West's life in New Caelum. The book is action-packed and engrossing, and I couldn't put it down. I can't rave enough about how wonderful this book is. No sophomore slump here, for sure! I'm eagerly anticipating the conclusion to the series (though I will be sorry to see it end and hope there will be some spin-offs).

Uprising is a young adult scifi that keeps you turning the pages for more. I loved the way the story goes back and forth between Cricket and West. About the Author
Ph.D., University of Minnesota, 1980. Major research and teaching interests include public policy, budgeting, state politics and research methodology. Berry’s primary areas of interest are public policy, American state politics, and research methodology. Throughout his career, his work has focused on explaining why governments make the policy choices they do, and improving the methodologies available for studying policy making. Among his current research projects are analyses of the impact of electoral competition on the policy choices made by state legislators, and the effect of state welfare policy on poverty in the United States. Berry’s current research on methodology focuses on the development of techniques for estimating econometric models with binary dependent variables, and methods for studying policy diffusion using geographical information systems. Berry has also been working for several years collecting data on outcomes of all state legislative elections in the U.S. since the 1960s; he has begun to use these data to study the behavior of challengers in state legislative elections, and the role of partisan and incumbent protection goals in determining the nature of redistricting in state legislatures.

Its sterngth is in the examples

I've owned a copy of Berry's Understanding Regression Assumptions for ten years, but I didn't get around to reading it until a few days ago. Better late than never, I suppose, but Berry's text would have been an invaluable adjunct to any of the more complete regression/econometrics texts -- Gujarati, Wooldridge, Wittink -- I've used for teaching multiple regression in years past.

It's easy to list the assumptions, explain the consequences of their violation, and provide corrective procedures to assure that OLS regression provides BLUE estimates of slopes. It's a good deal more difficult, however, to identify and explain concrete circumstances that give rise to violation of assumptions in the first place. Sure, mis-specification is easy, at least in principle: variables that should be in the equation are, those that should not be are not, and funtional forms of all relationships are correct. But providing specific examples that illustrate violation of even this most fundamental of assumptions requires a good deal of work on the part of an instructor who wants to do the job right.

Futhermore, when we get past the conceptually easier issues and have to provide examples of circumstances that generate, say, heteroscedasticity or serial correlation with cross-sectional data, the task of making these ideas concrete becomes much more demanding. Only a practiced hand who has attended to these issues in purposeful fashion will be able to provided illustrations which will attune students to the conditions that are likely to cause essential assumptions to be violated.

Berry's book is replete with examples that make the usual OLS regression assumptions real and easy to remember, rather than leaving them as odd-sounding abstractions that we memorize and take on faith as essential to best use of OLS estimators. I'm retiring at the end of this semester, so maybe better late than never doesn't really apply after all. Still I'm glad I finally got around to reading this fine book.

Delivers all that's hoped

While equation heavy at times, after reading this book one gains a great deal of understanding as to the weaknesses/boundary conditions for inference of OLS regression. For those with little understanding of the basic mechanics of regression, this is NOT a good starting place, but those with some working knowledge this book is invaluable.

Vital to the preservation of hip hop's culture

Where do I begin? This book chronicles the beginnings of the hip hop culture as no other periodicle has ever done... Written in 1984, it is immersed in the legend and lore of the time from which it was born... The lucid writing is gripping and revealing, offering a veritable cornucopia of jewels, gems, and unparalleled insight into the roots of breakdancing, graffiti, rapping, and DJing (the four elements - although they are not enumerated as such in the text)...
In other words, if you get a chance, peep it... On the real, kid, even though it's crazy rare, it's a piece of your culture -- OUR culture... If you EVER see it, pick it up... It's incredibly rare and hard to find!

Absolutely wonderful read. This filled in a lot of gaps for me on Hip Hop's origins. I thought the sections on Rap and Graff were particularly interesting. We run a non-profit out of Utah that focuses on Hip Hop arts and this article has been a great resource, both to the staff and to the community. Hoping to get my hands on a printed copy some day!

Nothing brings about more moans and groans from senior staffing than reminders that performance reviews are due. Some reviews practically write themselves, others, not so much. This book addresses just about every situation at every level that you can think of. It definitely takes the drudgery out of writing the reviews. For your long-time employees that keep doing stellar work, it gets harder and harder to keep it fresh and new each year. Good or bad, new or long-timer, this book is a God-send.

A Light Mystery/Romance

Entertaining. Nth is is the second book in this series. I like the writing and all of the characters. My only problem with this series, and this is just my opinion, is that Maddie and Nick don't have the passion I want to see them have. Some of his lines are a little "cheesy". This a very clean read. I would like to see some heat between Maddie and Nick.

I'm not one for romance books that read more like instruction or how-to manuals (you know what I mean) ...

Third book in the series and I have preordered 4and 5. I am wondering if this is a young adult series as the "love scenes" are squeaky clean. Now, I'm not one for romance books that read more like instruction or how-to manuals (you know what I mean) but a little heat would not be unwelcomed. Especially since we've been waiting for Maddie and Nick to get together. All the secondary characters are delightful and the villains (Marla and Cassidy) are real...well, insert your own word. I'm trying to keep it clean when it comes to those two.
My one reason for the 4 star rating, once again, is the repetition of certain phrases. "Smoking hot" "my Maddie", "you two are so cute", "you two are going to make me puke” and the endless pools that this town subect our sweet couple to.
Still, the story is engaging and I will continue to read the series. What I find wrong with the writing is dwarfed by the storyline as a whole. I hope I don't put anyone off this series. It truly is enjoyable.

So sweet it gave me a toothache

I really wanted to like this story, but I struggled to even finish it. I read the author's Ivy Morgan books and enjoyed them so I thought I would try this series. I downloaded the first three books and really enjoyed the first one in the series. The second book started to become annoying with Maddie's insecurities over everything, but I was hoping book three would be better. It wasn't. The constant proclamations of how much Maddie and Nick love each other was way over the top. Not only were they annoying, but it seems like the entire town (minus Cassidy and Marla) drank from the same pitcher of koolaid because all they could talk about were how perfect a couple they are. The premise of the story is very good I just wish the main characters weren't written as lovesick middle schoolers.
